Holly Leaf Banksia (Banksia ilicifolia) to brighte Holly Leaf Banksia (Banksia ilicifolia) to brighten up a wintery day. These have turned from Green/Yellow to Red, which means they are past the point of having nectar. Insects and birds go to the flowers when green/yellow as they are ready to be pollinated and get a larger nectar reward. After a period of time, the flowers turn red and are no longer nectar laden. I love how this banksia gives signals to its pollinators. Also at night, we have seen Western Ringtail Possums munching away on these. Nature always has a way to brighten the day!
